Volunteers Sought
For 2009 Event

Volunteers are needed for the 16th annual Keep L.A. Running Charity 5K Run/Walk, 10K Run, Kids Dash, Coastal Fun Bike Cruise and Mayor's Mile , Sunday, July 12, at Dockweiler Beach in Playa del Rey. The event is organized by SEIU Local 721 and is sponsored by PacifiCare, Kaiser Permanente, Colonial Supplemental Insurance, and American Income Life.

There will be over 200 volunteer positions available in the following areas: race registration, race pre-registration (the day before the race), event traffic control, water station monitors, mile timers, communications, volunteers to stuff the competitor goody bags, T-shirt distribution, volunteers to assist with race set-up, i.e., banners, information table, sponsor booths, awards presentation and press operations.

Volunteers will be also needed in the marketing area to help distribute race flyers to local businesses, to hang posters in local businesses, and to distribute brochures at upcoming road races.  Also, volunteers are needed to assist in the office for the days leading up to the event.

Keep LA. Running, which has grown into one of the most popular distance running events in Southern California , has raised over $800,000 for its beneficiary charities. Keep LA Running is a very special event, benefiting children with cancer, premature born babies and other worthy causes. The event was initiated in 1995 by then SEIU Local 660 L.A. County/Special Districts Employees Emergency Disaster Relief Fund to provide a safety net for L.A. County employees. The Emergency Relief Fund is a 501 (c) (3) not for profit organization (EIN 95-4842244). As the event has grown in profile, popularity and funds generated, it has added new charities - the Pediatric Oncology Service, Women's and Children's Hospital of LAC + USC Medical Center ; the Harbor UCLA Medical Center Neonatal Ward, and the American Cancer Society.

Keep LA Running: Quick facts
The 16th annual Keep L.A. Running 5K Run/Walk, 10K Run, Kids Dash, and 10/20K Coastal Bike Cruise, organized by SEIU Local 721 and sponsored by Kaiser permanente, Colonial Supplemental Insurance, PacifiCare, and American Income Life, will be held Sunday, July 12, at its traditional site, Dockweiler Beach in Playa Del Rey.
Events

7:30 a.m. - 10K & 20K Fun Bike Ride
7:30 a.m. - Mayor's Mile
8:00 a.m. - 5K Run & Walk
8:30 a.m. - 10K Run
9:45 a.m. - Time Warner Kids Dash

The event is open to everyone, from the serious runner to first time participants. All age groups are welcome. Awards to be given to the top three finishers in each division of the 5K/10K Run.

Race location The run and walk is in the Playa del Rey and starts on Vista del Mar (at the beach, at the West end of the LA Airport). Runners and walkers start on Vista del Mar and finish in the beach parking lot. The Coastal Bike Cruise starts in the beach parking lot and follows the bike path into Manhattan Beach or Redondo Beach.
Course The course start is on Vista del Mar in Playa del Ray, just north of Imperial Highway. The couse is flat and fast on city streets and the beach service road. Mile splits and water stations are on the course.
Parking Parking is in the Dockweiler State Beach Parking lots and along Vista del Mar.

Bring your friends. Be a team!

Special pre-registration discount to running clubs! Gather your friends together and walk as a Team. For more information on how to sponsor a Team, please call Alejandro Stephens at (213) 368-8633. While there is no fee for the Team, each participant on the Team is responsible for their registration fee.

Teams may enter as many runners/walkers as they wish. The 1st five team members to cross the finish line are scored for that team. Awards to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place teams in the 5K and 10K. Team members are also eligible for individual awards.

Coastal Fun Bike Cruise Start in the Dockweiler State Beach parking lot and ride the bike path to Manhattan Beach (10K loop) or Redondo Beach (20K loop) to return to the staging area for the fun and festivities.
Extra, extra - plenty of post-race fun Merchandise awards. Food and drink for all!.Music and a barbecue. Plenty of post-race fun and celebrities. Meet the ChivaGirls, the Laker Girls and a special race starter.
Awards Awards given to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners in each run division of the 5K/10K Run.
