Volunteers needed
for 2010 KLAR
Volunteers are needed for the 17th annual Keep L.A. Running Charity 5K Run/Walk, 10K Run, Kids Dash, and Coastal Fun Bike Cruise, Sunday, July 11, at Dockweiler Beach in Playa del Rey. The event is organized by Local Emergency Relief Fund and benefits several charities, including kids with cancer and victims of the Haiti earthquake.
There will be over 200 volunteer positions available in the following areas: race registration, race pre-registration (the day before the race), event traffic control, water station monitors, mile timers, communications, volunteers to stuff the competitor goody bags, T-shirt distribution, volunteers to assist with race set-up, i.e., banners, information table, sponsor booths, awards presentation and press operations.
Volunteers will be also needed in the marketing area to help distribute race flyers to local businesses, to hang posters in local businesses, and to distribute brochures at upcoming road races. Also, volunteers are needed to assist in the office for the days leading up to the event.
Keep LA. Running, which has grown into one of the most popular distance running events in Southern California, has raised over $1,000,000 for its beneficiary charities. Keep LA Running is a very special event, benefiting children with cancer and other worthy causes. The event was initiated in 1994 by then SEIU Local 660 L.A. County/Special Districts Employees Emergency Disaster Relief Fund to provide a safety net for L.A. County employees facing financial hardship. The Emergency Relief Fund is a 501 (c) (3) not for profit organization (EIN 95-4842244). Proceeds from this year’s race will also help victims of the devastating Haiti earthquake.

The race festivities take place at Dockweiler Beach in Playa del Rey. There is plenty of parking for all runners and spectators. However, Beach Parking is now $10 per vehicle. So save some money and save the environment and Carpool! Email info@genericevents.com if you are looking to carpool.
If you'd like to save some money - there is FREE parking 1 mile north of the race in Playa del Rey, where Culver Blvd. hits the beach. It's a quick 10 minute walk to the race start. Playa del Rey is just north of Manhattan Beach and just south of Marina del Rey.
From the North
Take 405 Southbound: Exit Jefferson Blvd. Left on Culver Blvd. Drive 2 miles to Vista del Mar and curve to the left. Drive 1.5 miles on Vista del Mar til you see the signs for the entrance into Dockweiler Beach.
From Westside:
Take Lincoln South. Follow directions above.
From Eastside:
Take the 10 West to 405 south. Follow directions above.
From the South:
Take 405 Northbound: Take the 105 West, continue to the Beach! Drive straight into the gate of Dockweiler Beach. |

Online registration has closed. However, there is still time to be part of the fun of the 17th annual KLAR. You may still enter the race by going to the competitor packet pickup at Road Runner Sports store in Torrance, 25359 Crenshaw Boulevard, (310) 326-8530 on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Race packets also will be available for pick up the morning of the race at the race site at Dockweiler Beach. The races are scheduled for Sunday, July 11, beginning at 7:30 a.m. Race day registration also is available prior to the races at Dockweiler Beach. |
